A Special Commission: Celebrating the Union of Japan and Spain
In my most recent project, I had the honor of working on a special commission for the Embassy of Japan in Spain, in commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. This historic milestone dates back to November 12, 1868, when the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce, and Navigation was signed between Japan and Spain.
The artwork, measuring 135×72 cm on washi paper, represents a fusion of cultures through a symbolic bridge. It prominently features iconic landmarks from both countries, including the Segovia Aqueduct, the Sagrada Familia, the Court of the Myrtles in the Alhambra, the Puerta de Alcalá, Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari, the Houryuji Pagodas in Nara, Tokyo’s Kaminarimon and Sky Tree, the majestic Mount Fuji, and the beauty of cherry blossoms (sakura).
This project serves as a humble tribute to the unity and friendship between our two nations, celebrating the richness of our cultures and the shared history we cherish
