Live Painting of Sumi-e & Japanese Calligraphy at UAB’s University
30 september 2024
I had the honor of performing a live painting of Sumi-e and Japanese calligraphy at the University of Barcelona (UAB) Translation and Interpretation Department’s opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year.
For this special occasion, I painted two Koi fish climbing a waterfall, surrounded by Momiji (Japanese maple) leaves. This symbolizes perseverance, strength, and success.
I also wrote the calligraphy: 「千里の道も一歩から」(Senri no michi mo ippo kara) This means: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
This message is perfect for students starting their studies—it reminds us that every great achievement begins with a small action.
Good luck with your studies! Thank you so much for this wonderful experience.
