The Kanji “金” Gold has been chosen as the Kanji of the year 2016.

This is the third time that this kanji is chosen as the kanji of the year. The reasons for this time are the following.

Japan won many golden medals in Rio Olympics, corruption of some politicians, the new president of United States has blond hair( in Japanese ‘kinpatsu’ golden hair), and the famous video of PPAP’s actor Pikotaro wears golden costume in the video.

The Prime Minister Abe hopes that the Kanji of the year 2020 which is Tokyo Olympics year will be “金” Gold again.
