Gion Matsuri

This month of July one of the biggest festivals in Japan called Gion Matsuri is celebrated in Kyoto; the streets are full of people, food stands and floats. It is very typical to wear yukata which is a kind of summer style Kimono, these days in Kyoto to enjoy the festival. The festival has been celebrated since the X century to pacify the gods to keep the city without pests, diseases and fires etc.

During the festival, there are several parades with these floats around the city of Kyoto. The floats are decorated with various traditional items such as painted lamps and beautiful tapestries.

Here you have some pictures of the festival which I did just a year ago.
